![]() Valter Birsa was born on 7 August 1986 in Nova Gorica, Slovenia, to two Slovenian parents, and is already a key member of the Slovenian national team. Indeed, Birsa became the youngest player to ever play for Slovenia when he made his international debut at the age of just 18. Since then he has become an integral and vital part of the first team. ![]() His career began at the tender age of just 5, when he started playing for NK Bilje, a small football club near his home town. Immediately his immense talent was recognised. Before long he found himself at NK Primorje, and at the age of just 17 he was transferred to ND Gorica. By his second season of professional football he was already the second best striker and one of the best in the Slovenian first league, scoring an outstanding 27 goals for ND Gorica. In 2006, he moved to the French club FC Sochaux of the Ligue de Football Professionnel, (Ligue 1) where he has forced himself into the first team with some outstanding performances. Birsa has also won a number of awards, and was declared the best Slovenian player of 2006 by the SportNamreza and NogoMania. |
